Quantum of Solace: Craig’s Bond is a man of love?

Bond Girls are an essential part of any James Bond movie just as his cars, gadgets and guns. Sometimes they are a fellow agent and sometimes a victim rescued by 007, but always all the time they are beautiful by definition.

As a matter of fact, we are used to seeing 007 in short term relationships with these beautiful ladies. He doesn’t commit to any of his relationships with the women, which helps his image as a man of mission. However, this time, in Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig’s Bond is trying to avenge the death of the woman he loved; and his relationship with the new bond girl, featuring Olga Kurylenko,  is totally different than those we are used to.

In the Quantum of Solace, Bond doesn’t forget about his former love interest and move on to the next one as usual, rather he goes for the revenge of his true love which arises the question that ‘Is Bond evolving into a man of love from a man of mission?’.

In parallel to this, the new Bond Girl is not just a sexual partner to 007 or a mere eye candy. She’s a strong character who is seeking her own revenge. Kurylenko talks about it in an interview:

“There haven’t been women as feisty and as strong [as Camille] before in Bond movies. The thing what was important to [director] Marc [Forster] was that the woman appears strong in the movie,” Kurylenko explained. “He wanted to do a different movie, so he didn’t want it obviously to resemble others. I think the female character is very different in this film [from all the other Bond girls].

On the other hand, 007’s relationship with the woman is not the only thing which differentiate Quantum of Solace from the traditional Bond movies. Come on, you wouldn’t forget the way 007 introduces himself if you are to make a Bond movie:

‘My name is Bond, James Bond.’
